India’s loss, Somerset’s Gain?

Should Kartik be in the Test team instead of Ojha/Mishra or, dare I say, Bhajji?

  1. Megha, expected another ode to y’kno which Murali.
Had the exact same thot today about MK, and how old is old for the Indian team? He’s not even 34 yet.

Cheers NC. They could have easily given MK a chance last year…wish Cheeka would have shown some good old Tam-brotherhood here, if good performance is not the criteria for selection anymore…and yes, 34 is not too old for the Test team.

  2. For someone *yawning* due to the lack of sporting affairs on telly – this is some pertinent query. Dare I ask – you actually followed the snooze fest !!!

Btw Murali Kartik’s chance came and went by ( with whatever little chances he got !). Don’t see him back in India team.

Blame the RSS feeds for updating me on the happenings TG…and India’s bowling troubles aren’t limited to this particular tour anyway…

I don’t know where to look for First class records (Cricinfo doesnt seem to have them) so I maybe wrong here, but I have read often of MK’s exploits, with Mdx and Somerset, with his domestic teams, with India A teams etc in the past couple of years.

I don’t see why he wouldn’t get another chance. But like you, even I am not too hopeful of him being back in the team.

TBH, too much shouldn’t be read into his performance in the English county considering the standards of play here. A bit far fetched comparison but it’s akin to expecting England to do well in the football world cup taking the EPL performance into consideration :)

Also, the bloke is no spring chicken. Added to it is the fact that *somehow* Harby seems to be the team’s favourite. Frankly with his dismal performance of late he should have been dropped but NO he still get’s to play.

Sadly Kartik doesn’t have similar *godfathers* looking out for him.

If the English county is to not be considered because of lack of standards, the Indian domestic scene is not particularly known for its high standards, wrt bowlers specially, then pray how is one to judge which players to pick for the team? Please don’t say IPL ;)

  3. Pray what is *wrong* with the IPL :P All young players consider it as the pinnacle of their careers and you don’t give it enough credit :)

Aside from that, unless you cut your teeth in the Indian domestic scene you don’t have a career to speak of anyway. All said and done, over the last decade and more, Ind have been the better team than England. Surely that’s due the difference in class/standard in each place ?

Agreed both are not the best, but it’s a case of which one is least worse :)

tsk tsk… -10 TG!! Your rating is already not so good around here with u being an Aussie fan despite the fact that u r an Indian by birth..and now support for the IPL *shaking my head* :P

On the domestic scene…u think so? I thought India was a better team despite the domestic system…it was a better team because we had an experienced batting core by then, a few of those who had also had county stints under their belts among other things….
(P.S. not saying that India’s is worse off than England’s…but i don’t think we should discount county cricket completely)

  4. Shouldn’t I get extra credit *FOR* being an Aussie fan despite being an Indian. Should show that my priorities are spot on :D

Fair counter point that India had a good team despite the domestic scene.. No I’m not discounting the English county scene. In the 80′s and 90′s it was pretty good considering the overseas players that used to play here.

It’s just that even the locals complain about the inferior quality of the county scene the last few years.. Hence my point that Murali Kartik’s county performance should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Anyways, forget spinners per se , presently India don’t have a bowling attack. Good luck when this lot heads to South Africa at the end of the year. A mauling of epic proportions awaits :)

Yeah, that’s not how it works here…sorry.

I’ll seek out some people here who follow their cricket on their opinion re the county scene.

And re SA…Zak will be back and (I/Sree)shant are going to shine in helpful conditions…you’ll see! (I died a little inside coz I counted Sreesanth as one of India’s top 3 bowlers)

  5. Simple point on the county scene – how many English born/bred players are in the current English national team ??

Seeing the likes of Trott/KP/Eoin Morgan should tell something right ??? It get’s worse when you take the T20/ODI teams – then you add Kieswetter and Lumb ! Point rested.

Re S Af tour – for all Indian fans to have some Shanti during the series, ideally neither of the *shant* should tour :D
