Some Stuff That Amused Me Today

with 24 comments

Shiv Sena is still bent on not allowing Aussies in Mumbai. I knew this would happen. I’m sure no one in BCCI knows how to use PowerPoint. So it is not a surprise that they were not able to give Thackerey uncle a convincing presentation.

Deccan Chargers warn of boycotting the IPL as their “home” matches are being moved to Mumbai and Nagpur because of the security situation. The move was decided on despite assurances of full support from the authorities and the Telangana Joint Action Committee.  Trying to make sense of this development in conjunction with point 1 made me a little dizzy initially. Now I am just amused and waiting for IPL’s response.

The first thing I saw when I woke up today was that Steyn went for more than 4 runs an over. BWAHAHAHA :D

In November, NC wondered why Bhajji’s sister did not get married instead of Gambhir’s. She has obliged now. And Harbhajan has ruled himself out of the first 2 Saffa ODIs. Better late than never I say. Ha!

  1. Expect SRT to do a mission and talk to the dopeheads that go by the name of Shiv Sena and things will turn out ok. Then SRT will be hailed a hero for the umpteenth time.

In reality, BCCI and the IPL should give Shiv Sena the ‘ middle finger’ and move all the matches out of Mumbai. If they can do that to the Deccan Chargers, why not the Mumbai Indians ?

Oh and I’m hoping the last 5 wickets fall for less than 50 runs tomorrow morning and a really good test match will be in the offing :-)

Nah TG..I don’t expect SRT to say anything here, or for IPL to show some spine. Things will get sorted out via some backroom politics I suspect :)

    I’m hoping the last 5 wickets….

    Heartfelt apologies in advance…I don’t mean to sound disrespectful, I really don’t, I swear..but….Shutup!

Well miss, your wish has come true. India are 135 ahead with 4 wickets still standing at lunch. To think I woke up early to hope for a good test being set up.

Now I’l go wishing for Kolkotta 01 repeat – ok fine not the whole 10 yards with how that game panned out, but something along similar lines would do just fine :-)

Ha Ha…you don’t give up, do you? :D

Btw, a Test is considered good if India spanks the opposition…which is what will happen here (unless I have jinxed it now!!)

I’m an Aus supporter, they and their fan’s don’t know the meaning of GIVE UP :-) I’m not sure India is going to spank S Af – will take more than Zak to do it, and with Bhajji having done his bit in the first innings, things aren’t that rosy, is it :-)

Btw you in any way into soccer ??? If yes, Arsenal/Chelsea or Tottenham rings it for you ?

All we need is favourable weather. It’s going to happen, man!! If nothing else, SA will do what they are good at doing and fall apart ;)

Not a football fanatic. At least not club football anyway. Although I do know a little bit about some of the major teams thanks to the culture here, where sport = football. I only get interested when the World Cup is on :) . Who do you support? And who do you hate?

And before you ask..not an F1 fan either. Although I would like to be..if someone can explain to me how things work :)

    Tifosiguy Reply:

I guess it’s time for the oft repeated cliche statement – a billion Indian fans would pray for a sunny day tomorrow :-)

tch tch Megha, it’s Soccer.. Leave the word football to those pesky American’s and their American football nonsense !

As to whom I’m support – The Red Devils aka Manchester United. From that it follows I dislike ( hate is too strong a term for me ) – Liverpool, Man City. No surprises there then :-)

Btw why of all remaining sport, did you refer to F1 ? What about F1 don’t you know – the technical aspects I guess.. Ahem this would need a blog post on it’s own.

What you might do though is tune into BBC1 on March 14′th at 12:00 and watch the first race of the 2010 season. That would be a good start :-)

Before you ask ( if not clear already), in F1 it’s Ferrari for me.

Well, I thought I vaguely remembered a discussion you had with someone re F1 on one of the blogs (Achettup’s?)…of course, just saw football (bear with me!), cricket and F1 on your blogger profile too…

(Oh btw, congrats on starting ur blog :) )

Haan, as for football/soccer? Don’t they call, what ManU play, football over here? I always thought
    Football (England) = Soccer (US)
    Rugby (England) = Football (US)
Do correct me if I am wrong :)

As for F1..I’ve seen a few races (though a long time ago, when I was still in India). And because I didnot get the hang of the technical side of it, I didn’t pay much attention. Would love it if you would write a post on “F1 technicalities for Dummies”…

    Tifosiguy Reply:

Actually, I think you’ve got it right with respect to soccer/football. I somehow like to call it soccer :-)

Good memory on the F1 chat at Achettup’s blog ! Yeah I’m a fan of F1 – even been to a race when I was still in mainland Europe ! Guess what I gave up to watch F1 ? To watch the first Ashes test of the 05 series. Ok it was online watching, and I expected Aus to whip England ( which they did at Lords, and let’s forget the rest of that series, or even last yrs for that matter ;) )

Tks for the blog bit – it’s more a space for me to rant when I’m done doing the same at other people’s blog :)

I’ll try and put up a post on F1 tech aspects.. It’s a fascinating field, so much so I even thought of doing certain courses at Univto try and get into a F1 team !! Things though haven’t as yet panned out that way :-)

    cool…take your time…and i’ll join the rant-fest at your blog soon :)

Actually, Rugby in Europe is not the same as Football in America. While American Football was derived from Rugby, there is a lot of difference between the two sports. So Rugby in Europe is Rugby in America as well, although some of them equate it to binge-drinking.

See? That is why I stick to cricket. No such confusion…cricket is cricket everywhere :)

  2. The Shit Sena has already asked Tendulkar to concentrate on cricket rather than politics so don’t expect them to listen to any cricketers. The BCCI won’t flip the bird to the Shit Sena because it is in the hands of Sharad Pawar who in his capacity as the NCP big man has lately been cosying up to the Shit Sena. There is also the small matter of Mr. Pawar and Mr. Manohar bringing as many matches to their state as they can. It’s almost certain that one of the two expansion franchises in the IPL will be based in Nagpur and the man rumoured to be in the running to own it is Mr. Praful Patel, another NCP leader.

  3. I don’t remember Kolkata ever monopolising Indian cricket the way it has been under Sharad Pawar and his cronies. The Eden Gardens being the biggest stadium in India makes a good case for hosting the final of a big tournament (It didn’t host the final of the Titan Cup in 1996) and I don’t remember the venue hosting multiple games year after year unlike Nagpur which has hosted 2 tests, 2 ODIs and a T20 in a span of 15 months. I hope there is a more even spread of games once the current regime is replaced but knowing how things work in India it wouldn’t be surprising to see history repeat itself.

Mahek, I just checked grounds stats for two year ranges..

2001- Jun 2005 (this is when JD was at the helm, if I am not wrong?)

    Jul 2005-2009

Kolkata was ahead of others in the first case, and Nagpur is second to Mohali now(if you consider the two grounds together). Haan, but as you mention, Jamtha has hosted a lot matches in the last 12-15 months. With Kolkata, the matches were spread out more evenly.

When does the current regime end?

    [Reply]

    Mahek Reply:

I don’t think these stats include T20s because the new stadium in Nagpur has hosted a T20 in addition to two tests and two ODIs. Also, you can’t discount the 4 games at the old VCA stadium so really it’s 9 international matches in four and a half years. Now it’s not like Nagpur is a major Indian city or a favourite tourist spot. It might make sense if a city like Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi or Bangalore had hosted the most number of international matches but that’s not the case.

PS: There were some more games hosted by Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Mohali as part of the 2006 Champions Trophy. Since these games didn’t feature India they probably didn’t show up in your table for 2005-2009.

As for this current regime, it’s here to stay for a long long time.

Maybe it did not come out right the way I worded it. As per the stats I checked Mohali was at 9 and Nagpur 8 (yes, I did count the 2 grounds together..and I dont know why the T20 match wasn’t included..I thought I had included all formats in there…my bad)…so yes, I was agreeing with you that Nagpur has hosted a lot of matches under this regime. And combine it with all the Mumbai matches…that is a lot of matches for the West Zone.

On the bit about Nagpur not being a major city..I am not very against smaller centres holding matches per se. But obviously, I would prefer if such cities got an equal opportunity to do so.

  6. Sena has shown double standards here, first they beat north-Indians, treat them as outsiders, chase them away from their heart-land and when the Aussies do the same down-under they have a national heart-break?? sheeesh!
